Overview

This website is run for David S. Rosado, author of Domesticated by Darkness. It collects as little as possible, and this page explains, in plain English, exactly what happens when you use it.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to updates, your email address and first name (if you give it) are sent to Kit, the service that delivers David’s emails. They are not kept anywhere else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time.

Messages & comments

When you send a message through the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to David and kept in the site’s private inbox so he can reply.

When you leave a comment on an article, your name and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is never shown. It is used once to confirm the comment is really from you, and, if you ask, to tell you when someone replies. Comments that are never confirmed are deleted after 7 days.

Cookies

There are no advertising or tracking cookies. One small, functional cookie remembers that you have confirmed your email for commenting on this device, for up to a year, so you don’t have to confirm again. The site’s private admin area uses a secure sign-in cookie for David and the site manager.

Analytics

The site counts daily page views and clicks on the “Buy on Amazon” button, as simple totals. No cookies are used for this, and no IP addresses, device fingerprints or personal details are stored.

Your choices

To have your comments or messages deleted, or to ask what the site holds about you, email david@domesticatedbydarkness.com.

The site is hosted by Hostinger. Private backups of the site’s data are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
